Marko began to examine his surroundings interested but weakly, laying his head down on the ground occasionally to rest for a moment. His left eyelid twitched too did twitch now and then, while his eye was dashing around from point to point. Most of the staff had left by now and only the head physician and his assistant stood near us, reading their equipment and going through a few lists about Markos conditions. Jim and I in the meantime gave Marko any time he needed to catch up after waking up, which he did eventually after he lost interest of the sight of the hospital.

"It's good to see you on one piece Rob." He stated weakly, but in good temper, "Hearing of their planned betrayal was something I would have never expected."

"Neither did we." I replied sadly, "But thanks for your intervention. You saved my life and I'm in your dept for that."

"What did they do to you anyways? I only saw that Jason had his claw in your back and that your hide started to lost all of its color, which was enough for me to attack. No one takes my student away from me." Marko asked with a mixture of growl and curiosity.

"They took the gift. Well most of it." I answered, causing Marko to gasp, "Not sure how and it left me with an pretty unique condition. Though I think that has time for later. You finally woke up after almost crossing the line and shouldn't get flooded with every small detail there is."

"Wise decision." The physician said, "He lost a lot of days and still needs rest. Still I need to tell you about a few things of your injuries. I have good and bad news for you."

"Please start with the good ones." Marko plead, focusing the physician with his left eye.

"Your body recovered most of the damage it took. There shouldn't be any permanent damage left after we release you from the hospital. Your wings are completely fine, except for the few cuts in it. Give it a few days and the membrane should be as strong as it was before the attack. Your wing and back muscles though were cut deep and need more time to heal, which is the reason why you can't hold your head up for long. Now for the bad news. Your right eye took quite a beating and one of Jason´s hits cut into it. We did what we could and it healed up, though you probably wont be able to see with it more than dark or bright. Most of its nerves got destroyed and those are among the things that even our dragon regeneration can't repair. This and one or two scars will definitely stay for the rest of your life, but it could be worse in my opinion."

"So my right eye is pretty much blind?" Marko asked with shattered voice.

"I didn't wanted to say it this way, but yes." The physician replied, "Now if you would excuse me for a second. I have to check the rest of your wounds and leave you with your friends a bit more."

With that he trotted around Marko, checking the bandages and other spots across Markos flank.

"I'm sorry Marko." Jim said.

"At least it's only the eye." Marko replied sadly, "Could be worse. Rob what unique condition do you have. Can't be worse than loosing your eye."

"We'll I could have lost my wing. That would be worse." I chuckled a bit, "But seriously. I more or less lost my humanity. Jason took the gift from me with force and killed my human form while doing so. I still can switch between half dragon and full dragon form, but that would be it."

"WHAT?" Marko yelled in disbelieve, "And that is something you can chuckle about?"

"It's something that happened and I'm over with it. As your eye it's something that can't be restored and it's still better than being dead." I replied, "I found a book about it in the library and will research it a bit more the next days. There may a cure maybe and I want to learn more about it, even if it is permanent."

"A book about this condition?" Marko asked curiously and twitched as the physician did something on the other side of him, "Could the be done a bit softer maybe?"

"Yep. Under the section of unexplainable happenings." I explained, "It was an short article from a historian named Komyeta. Lived around 1498 in Venezuela"

"Hm. Never heard of him but I'll look into it when I'm allowed to leave." Marko replied thoughtfully, "There weren't many historians around in the last four hundred years. Those tend to find things one shouldn't know. Wasn't one of the most popular tasks and discouraged most myths to follow the path."

"They have a pretty short lifespan if you ask me." The physician added, returning after his inspection, "Now. I think that should be enough for a now. You can return tomorrow and talk further with him, but now he needs a bit rest and I need a bit of silence for the next few steps. Marry would you please lead them outside and fly to the library to find me a special book."

"Sure. Which one?" Marry, the assistant and chopper half dragoness, answered.

"Wings in the wrong wing." He answered, "I need a bit information about the muscle structure of the dragon back."

"Sure. Would you two please follow me out?" She said and mentioned us to follow.

We said our farewell to Marko and left the hospital with Marry shortly after, breaking up after that and headed towards our own destinations after that. Serkath still asleep, only further curled together than he was before I left. Most lights were out and only a weak one shined through my door. Jessica and Arakod were sitting at the table, which was lit by a candle and greeted me silently as I stepped into the cave in half dragon form.

"Hi Rob. Finally made it?" Jessica asked happily, hugging me as I stepped to her, "What took you so long?"

"Marko woke up and I had to be there." I replied, "Sorry that it took so long."

"He did? I'm glad to hear that." She said, "Want to get another good message?"

"Sure!" I answered.

"Our parents can go home tomorrow and we are task to escort them." Jessica explained, "Though I'm a bit sad to leave you for a while."

"Not for long." I replied smiling, "Though it will be great to see my old home again after two weeks."

"That make two of us." Jessica said smiling, "I'll head in the bed for now and hope for a bit of company. Though I think Arakod needs something from you first."

"I do." He said, while Jessica left the room slowly, "What should we do tomorrow when you are away? Is it ok for Serkath, Shylah and me to go into the library and practice a bit more?"

"Sure. That and a bit of flying." I replied, "Training is always good and who am I to deny it to you. Have fun with that and don't let Shylah anger you to much."

"We'll see." Arakod huffed and yawned afterwards, "I'll head into bed too. To late to do anything else. Have a nice night."

"Oh, I will." I laughed, opening Arakods door for him, "A good night to you too Arakod."

He headed in and curled up besides Shylah after that, nodding towards me as I closed their door. Next was my own door, after I blew out the candle on the table. Jessica was already waited for me, setting an alarm while doing so and we cuddled each other into sleep afterwards, leaving us both tightly wrapped into the blankets of the bed.

We slept through the night and woke up pretty early, still a lot later than Arakod and Shylah who had already left the cave with our parents. Serkath though was still dozing in front of the neighboring cave and only woke up as we stepped outside.

"Good morning Serkath. Slept well?" I asked, holding Jessica close to me.

"Pretty much. The floor is more comfortable than I thought it would be." He yawned back and stretched himself afterwards, "Are you going towards the canteen and can I join?

"Sure you can." Jessica answered, "Eating alone is boring."

We three sailed down towards the canteen and entered it shortly after, joining Zorath who sat in an empty corner and was about to start his meal. Though he stopped as he saw our approach and winked happily, calling a huge plate of meat his own.

"Good morning you three." He gleamed, "Then I could have waited. Thought Serkath wanted to sleep a bit more."

"Not really." Serkath answered, "Just woke up myself as Rob and Jessica left their cave."

"Then take a plate and come. I'm starving and eager to return towards the library." Zorath said, causing us to chuckle about the display of eagerness.

"Sure we will. Just give us a minute." I replied and followed Serkath towards the counter.

The meal was swallowed after a while and chatting followed for a short time afterwards. Zorath had found a book that mentioned hints of half dragon magic and wanted to follow the thin lead a bit more, while Serkath was eager to continue his training with Arakod and Shylah. Those two were nowhere to see though and Serkath left shortly after with Zorath, who headed towards the library to catch up with the other two.

Jessica left too left me to search for her parents, while I headed to the scout building in hope to find Edge, Rex and Blake. I wanted to say good bye even if it was for only a day or two. The three were  in the same room where I met Edge and Rex the first time and eagerly chatting about details of some story.

"Hey guys." I greeted them happily, pulling their attention towards me, "How are you?"

"Fine fine." Edge replied, "Just talked about Rex last story. The scoundrel released it yesterday without saying a word to us."

"And your reaction was how I imagined it to be." Rex laughed, earning a huff from Edge "What leads you to wards here so early."

"Just wanted to say goodbye for now. Our relatives are allowed to return to their homes and we are tasked to bring them there." I replied amused, "Not sure when I'll come back though and so I thought it would be a good idea to say something, than to leave you in the dark."

"Glad to hear." Blake said, "Have fun with that, we'll save a bit of the oncoming work for you."

"Aw. And I thought that would be a good way to escape it." I replied, faking disappointment, "Don't get caught by the 'Others', while I'm away."

"Rob are you still here?" A voice from the entrance of the room asked which turned our to be Miranda, "Your parents are waiting and you aren't ready to go with them right now."

"What do you mean?" I asked confused, which she answered smiling by holding up a larger saddle and laughter from the other three, "A come on. Not again."

She gave the saddle to me, while grabbing a pair of coats for my parents. We then flew down towards the portal area and were greeted by my parents and the other half dragons of our circle. All ready for their own departure. My parents too did start to laugh as they saw the saddle, though stopped as Miranda instructed them how to put it onto me. Which they then did, after I had turned back.

It took them a while until Miranda was sure that the saddle was secure for them. She then gave them the coats and a small bag, which contained a crystal that would allow me to return afterwards. Jessica, the other half dragons and their families did watch the spectacle and continued with they chats until the first portal opened through which Frank and his relatives stepped.

"Well the next would be ours I think." I said to Jessica, while my parents were climbing up on my back, "Hope we won't be separated for to long."

"Me too." She said, hugging me one last time before the portal was reopened and switched to a well known scenery, "I'll be back tomorrow and wait for you."

"Not if I'm waiting for you first." I chuckled, "Until then good luck and have fun with your parents."

"You too Rob. You too." She replied sadly, petting me one last time.

"Ready up there?" I asked my parents.

"As one can be. Please start slowly." My father said, while my mom held on him as hard as she could.

"As slowly as I can." I replied while walking through the portal.

It had released us a good way south from our home. The sun already stood in it's highest point and the temperature was ideal for the summer. A weak wind was blowing and the sky was free of clouds. An ideal day for our return.

We quickly climbed above the forests around and headed towards the north, heading for our home happily. My parents were afraid at first but began to enjoy the flight after a few minutes, which I expanded by circling around a few points on our flight and again as we reached our hometown.
The city was filled with life, which was focused on the town center and it's shops. The general attention though switched immediately as I got noticed and I could literally feel their looks on me.

"I think it's the best to head home." My father yelled, "Before someone realizes that we two are up here too."

"They'll eventually." I replied, turning towards our house at the north of the town.

"Yeah, but so we'll be at home before someone is waiting for us." He yelled back.

"Good point." I said, preparing to get us down near the small parking lot in front of our small house. "Hold on."

The street was wide enough to allow a bus to drive by the parked cars, but that was it more or less and made it a bit difficult for me to land. I almost ran into one of the parked cars and touched one of the streetlights, while landing on the street. We stopped a few meters past the entrance of our house and in front of a car that just had entered the street on the other side. Never saw a driver speed up in reverse this fast. My parents in the meantime had jumped down from my back and were about to head into the house, but were stopped by a cough from me.

"The saddle." I said amused, "Hurry before they know where we are."

This took almost to long and the windows of surrounding houses were filled with our neighbors who watched the scene with face filled of curiosity and sometimes fear. The saddle came loose as the first noises of sirens got louder and I managed to get it off. We quickly headed inwards into our home, with me switching into half dragon form on the way. The first police car stopped there as we closed the door, the policeman in it quite confused about the situation at first.

I in the meantime tried to figure out how to navigate in the house. The ceiling height was high for a human, but pretty low for me and forced me to duck the whole time. I had enough time to squeeze myself and the saddle through the door of the living room and out of sight before the doorbell rang. My mother had closed the door behind me and both my parents went to speak with the police, hopefully with a good ending.

"Hello. How can we help you?" My father asked.

"We are here because of the sighting of a larger dragon over the town and were directed to this house from a neighbor." One of the policeman replied, with a clear disbelieve in his voice "I'm terrible sorry for the disruption of your sorrow, after you lost your son."

"Thanks. Thinks have changed quite a lot for us the last days" He replied happily. "Anyways. How can we help you with the dragon?"

He continued to talk with the police, while I used the time to examine any changes that had occurred in the room since I was away. Mostly out of curiosity and a bit out of boredom. Though most was as I left it, except for a small photo with black band on the upper right corner. One with me as human, shortly before I left for the journey. Mixed feeling arose in me. On the one hand I was sad about the loose of the form and the complications of it for the rest of my life. I found it hilarious  on the other hand, how it still was somewhat true that 'I' was dead.

I navigated towards the coach, with the picture in the hand and nothing else to do. My wings and the tail made it quite difficult to sit on it and only left me a slim room to sit on. The discussion itself went on for a short time, until the door was closed and my parents stepped into the living room, seeing me and the picture in my claws.

"And?" Was all my mother asked in the awkward situation, sitting down next to me.

"It's both funny and sad." I replied thoughtfully, "As it is true and false at the same time. Given my condition of loosing my human form."

"And now? How will you deal with the your studies in the future?" Was the next question of my mother.

"How it comes. The damage is done and now I can only react to things that come." I answered, putting away the picture and hugging my mother, "Don't worry. I'll deal with it."

"He's has a point and I see no reason to support him." My father said, "Now lets forget about the whole dying part and celebrate a bit. I want to hear your whole story again, but in detail this time."

"How do you know that my last time wasn't in detail?" I asked curious.

"Because I know how you act, doesn't matter if you have flesh or scales." My father laughed.

"True." I smiled, "Hm where to start?"

And I began to tell them the whole story with all up and downs. How I turned, how I learned how to fly or use magic and our little encounter with the 'Others'. I didn't skip a single part and told them everything I knew. This took until the late night and I ended the story with our encounter in the mine. Both had listened to it carefully, only interrupting my tale on certain points. The magic part to take an example.

We ended the day with a short welcome back drink and headed towards our beds afterwards. That left me in my room in the cellar with its lower ceiling, practically forcing me to crawl towards the bed. I fell onto it and was glad to lay in it again after all the time, leaving me only with the thoughts about the research tomorrow before I finally fell asleep.
And this marks the end of this arc after fifteen parts. Nothing much goes in it, except a few key points for the next part and some kind of closure. Hope it's not as bad as I think it is.

Enjoyed every bit of the series. I found it quite captivating and entertaining. The ending was perfect and wrapped everything up nicely. Good work.
